Every time I’ve called the council they’ve been very friendly and efficient. Whatever the issue, it was solved quickly and easily. I’m thankful for that.
They are an absolute shambles. The HQ has been unstaffed for 2 years and they don’t answer the phone. Recently I wasted money waiting 20 minutes for a reply then went into the HQ and used their internal phone where I waited 20 minutes for a reply.

Need a reality check… all the staff need a year of work in the private sector. Website is useless. Takes a lot of chasing to get anywhere with them. Been fined both years so far for council tax issues because it turns out their online system doesn’t issue reminders. Was told they’d refund the fines after investigation which was just a lie to get me off the phone.
it deserves a minus score, but I’m giving it a 1 because it’s the lowest I could give. Reasons: No need for me to elaborate, just read the other reviews and you’ll see for yourself.
It’s the council, can’t expect miracles or anything to be done quick. Chase it up daily though and it’ll get done sooner. The ticket queuing system works and free WiFi whilst you wait.

many members of council staff working miracles despite the heavy cuts imposed by central government ,doing a remarkably good job ,i think they really do care ,the challenges they face daily are huge ,and somehow despite all the cuts they manage to do pretty well .
I’ve always found York City Council staff to be helpful and courteous and repairs to my council flat have been done quickly.

City Of York Council charge me and my wife £350 business rates plus £150 Council tax per month.we are both retired and are on pension.The shop we own is empty and no income is made from it.We feel that this is plain and simple ROBBERY it does not even deserve one star.This is how York Council help shop owners.Shame on you.
