Define "timely".
Sometimes clients are not available, not organized, not certain of their plans or require time to gather information, make decisions, or summon courage. This can take months or years.
Court dates are not decided by lawyers. We generally choose the soonest available date, when it is most beneficial to our client. This is often 8 months out, or more. Court dates must be coordinated with opposing counsel's availability. If the furthest date is beneficial to their client, they may choose that... very little of the timeline is controlled by the lawyers.
