It is a big place. I got lost several times but there is always someone who is kind and helpful guiding me to the right path. The staff are professional and caring.
Our local hospital for the last 16 years have overseen the birth of both gran children and have treated most of my close family over the years. The staff are truly amazing especially in these covid days. Communication via letter and phone …

Just fantastic. Took my husband with serious burns from a wood burner on Friday night. He was seen within 10 minutes as it was potential very serious. Very kind and efficient staff. Well done and thank you Torbay Hospital.
Been in with my wee boy for an eye op. He’s 6. Gill and her trainee Yaz were fabulous. As was the anaesthetist Tom and Ms Sleep the surgeon. They are formidable. My wee boy left smiling. Thank you. Great drawing skills Ms Sleep. He loved …
On 13/1/23 I had an unexpected mild heart attack, very scary. The following Monday I had 3 stents fitted.
The care I received was second to none, all the staff looking after me were …
Very kind and professional medical personnel. I had the opportunity to help the doctors of the Haytor ward communicate with a patient who cannot speak English. They do their best in order to help this patient feel good. Their commitment to their job is exemplary. The ward administrator is also very kind and professional.
After calling 111 we got an order to go to the hospital for 3pm. We are wait 5 hours with an 8 month old baby. Dozens of patients have been admitted in the meantime. The child does not… after 7 hour, when we back home (50miles one way) someone at hospital called with question: wer we are? 😤 …
excellent care from the doctors and nurses.
building a little dated, but rather the money spent on providing a good service than making it look pretty, it is a shame that they don’t have the budget to do …
Had to go to the breast care unit at Torbay Hospital today what a lovely team of people everyone was kind friendly and helpful yes the building is past its sell by date but the attitude of all the staff more than makes up for that thank you to everyone who made my visit today so smooth and reassuring
I wish I could give it zero stars. Waited there 3 hours to say nothing is wrong with me. When I can’t sleep on my hips or anything cos of the pain. Happened to my grandma too where they wouldn’t see her even though she hurt her ribs. She is 72!!!
I worked in elderly care department and helped them during difficult time when the hospital was full of covid patients. I found the team to be antagonistic to Locum doctors of ethnic minority background. This was the same feeling shared by …
Had what I thought was a PVD ( ophthalmic issue) contacted 111, they advised me to contact Derriford or Torbay eye department. As Derriford was 20 miles more distant, I contacted Torbay eye department ( Saturday of the NY weekend). I …
If your going to A&E book a holiday as people have waited over 14 hours to be seen by just the triage alone. I know and do understand the staff are massively overworked and not enough staff but just saying it as it is.
I went for a colonoscopy a while ago due to having an abnormal FOB. (Scary !) When I went to lie down on the bed I found that there were four ceiling mounted cameras pointed at me. (Despicable ! Dehumanising !)THAT’S NOT PLAYING CRICKET, IS …
Arrived here with my disabled son at 5pm. At midnight he was still in his wheelchair (with high temperature and low oxygen level) because there wasn’t any bed. We couldn’t even put him on a trolley as there was no hoist.
Excellent hospital and excellent staff… Spent many weeks on the cromie ward and the staff were amazing… Covid measures are really good too, just as long as people adhere to them! the staff need to be safe at work…
Excellent care from the A&E staff …
I was rushed through due to chest pains, given an X-ray and placed on IV paracetamol. The staff do an amazing job, just a shame our NHS isn’t given more support
Can’t thank the MRU Unit enough… Lucie and Sam who happened to be on the night shift when I was admitted we’re amazing. They couldn’t help enough, Torbay Hospital are extremely lucky to have staff like them. Also the nurses on McCallum were lovely and have the patience of saints…
Fantastic! Was first looked after by a african guy in a&e called Collins, what a guy, made me feel very at ease, had a camera down throat, again all the staff there were fantastic, on a ward now and yet again everyone is great, couldn’t thank them enough.
My son broke his arm while we were on holiday in Devon. He had wonderful care in A&E, Orthopedics the Fracture Clinic and the Louisa Cary ward. Everyone who treated him was fantastic and we are very grateful.
Amazing care. Yes the waits are long but you will be seen if needed. Priorising care and seeing children first which was great. 11.5 hours from start of encounter to being sent hone with a script having had 2 ECG, 2 blood tests and an x-ray! Fabulous! And seen a cardiologist in that time too! Thanks for all your care!
My husband was treated at Torbay A&E 29thJuly 2022. The treatment and care he received was second to none. They went over and above to treat him in time for a funeral we had flown over from Spain for. I would like to thank all the staff who treated my husband especially Becky one of the drs looking after him. 👏👏🙏🙏 …
I have been going to this hospital for 17 years and all of the staff are amazing.
Excellent staff as always especially Jo from Minors. She is brilliant.

I visited the colon rectal screening unit yesterday as a patient and can only say that from the moment I entered the hospital and was greeted by a volunteer the service was friendly, compassionate and reassuring. The receptionist at the …
We’ve had many visits here in the last few months (daughter, for vision, dentistry, shoulder clinic, hand clinic and more); staff excellent, parking sometimes difficult (prefer car park A (pay on exit), rather than guesstimating pay and …
The consultant, nurses and staff were amazing – so caring and polite. One thought – we were obviously waiting around a lot so it would have been nice to have a coffee machine on hand and perhaps something to read or look at! Many thanks to everyone.
My mum collapsed so took her to Accident and emergency waited for hours eventually moved to a ward because she was obviously very ill. Stayed with her as long as we could but told her we we would come back later that evening by the time we …
Everybody’s so helpful as soon as I arrived on foot there were helpers to give advice as to which department I needed to go. I was there from 11am-5pm first visit then at the Fracture Clinic another day for 3 hours. The staff were very helpful.
Had to go to A&E on Saturday with an extremely painful leg. I only waited 20 minutes to be triaged by a nurse and then another ten minutes to see a doctor in Minor Injuries. Very impressed with the staff there. Well done guys, and thanks.
Wish I could give minus stars. Awful hospital, my mum was taken in with blood clots on her lungs, got another in her legs while in there, also a chest infection, moved to 4 different locations in 5 days. …
The staff is extremely rude at the A&E reception. Also During the “pandemic” news saying that hospitals are extremely busy… really?? because few time already reception staff had lots of time to chit chat with colleagues and refuse help to …
While I’ve had problems here and there, I’m sure that it was due to the NHS being underfunded and overworked, together with the pandemic. Occasional delays have occurred, but everyone has been incredibly polite and helpful, and I am, unfortunately, a repeat customer. I am extremely happy with my treatment there.
The worst hospital I have ever experienced. I have seen this hospital through the eyes of a patient and also experience of being a member of staff. The hospital is run on nepotism, professional and qualified applicants are rejected so …
I find it disturbing that I was told to go to A & E by both my optician and my GP surgery for a nerve problem that is affecting my sight. NOT life threatening or in any way necessary to clog up the department. …
A&E packed to standing room and not able to stay with the patient to make room. Ambulances queuing up outside to get in. Nursing staff always fantastic and reassuring just not enough of them to deal with Doctors surgery overspill.
If i could give a minus star rating i would. If this is an example of healthcare service then God help us all! Unfortunately ended up here whilst on holiday on a saturday at 8pm, seen by triage 4 1/2hrs later, seen by doc another 5hrs+ …
I went into Torbay Hospital yesterday for a repair on an umbilical hernia. It had to be an ‘open’ procedure rather than ‘keyhole’. Everything about my experience was superb. I was particularly struck about the upbeat nature of the staff; in …
30 September I had a scan today in x ray I am really impressed with the staff and the full hoist equipment not so stressful at all Exeter should have this jill.
I found the department of geriatrics mainly consultants very hostile to Doctors of ethnic minority.
The team we saw when we were very concerned about our 8 month old son were amazing. All of them were, particularly for me as I couldn’t go in with my son and wife, the security team were awesome – albeit the tea that I was given was a tad …
Had spinal fusion c5c6 acdf 14th September 2021 and was having 100% recovery with no pain and all symptoms gone. Unfortunately I had a fall down concrete steps and landed on my arms and chest beginning of December 2021. Started getting pain …
My 9 year old daughter came in today with an eye injury, and staff in the eye department couldn’t have been kinder and more helpful. We didn’t have to wait long and we were even offered food. Also a thank you to the traffic management guy, he was helpful too.
I hope anyone else doesn’t get the same frustrating treatment that my partner and myself have gone through with this establishment! My partner was taken in via ambulance with apparently a suspected heart attack, but nobody in the hospital …
My wife spent 14 nights in Torbay – 5 in MRU, the rest on Dunlop. MRU was fine, Dunlop was not so good. Most of time staff too busy to even say ” hello” so she felt very isolated because she was classed as contagious and in a separate room. …
Had two visits to A &E in a month, I was very impressed both times, my aunt if 91 with cancer was treated with dignity and respect with special care. My husband received excellent treatment after having an accident and breaking his arm …
Good hospital but obviously overstretched, some staff try to be attentive, others just seem to not be bothered unless reminded. A family relative was in there for 3 months, and was sent home twice, only to be readmitted the first time after …
On the 27th January I arrived approximately 7pm with what I thought was a broken arm. Was called to triage very quickly and then I only waited about 10 minutes before being called into minors where I saw a very kind Consultant called …

As someone who os very unwell and has spent time on nearly every ward it can be very hit and miss. It’s either amazing or I get the opposite and people don’t even look or follow my consultant plan or follow the protocols I have because of …

I cannot thank Torbay Hospital enough, amazing teams throughout. In the last month my Mum has broken her humerus and received exceptional care throughout. My youngest fractured her finger and again excellent. Being local, throughout my whole life I have had so many reasons to have needed Torbay and the always Save and Care

It was not clear from her symptoms exactly what was wrong, but I was immediately …
Having worked in Health and Social Care for the last 30 years I have to say Torbay Hospital is the worse I have had contact with. It has no idea what busy is (I was one of two people in the waiting room for a blood test. London hospitals …
Absolutely delighted by the care my daughter recently received at the birth of my grandson. Her birth plan was followed to the letter, and I am very grateful for their personal care at such a trying time. Well done Torbay!
Having gone into A&E on a very hot Saturday afternoon (05/05/2018), a Bank Holiday too. I was surprised by the short wait time, less than 10 minutes. Although I WAS seen quickly because I had chest pains and a heart rate of 150 BPM! I was …

One night I was very ill, I was taken by car to this hospital, I was dealt with in an efficient and very decent manner by the nurses and doctors here. This has to be the best hospital in the UK. I notice its listed as 3rd in NHS tables and …
My husband came in for a bowel cancer operation two weeks ago. We cannot praise the staff, from the car park attendant, cleaners, nursing staff, doctors, everybody for the wonderful care he has had received sine he was first diagnosed with …
Some excellent staff but generally a lack of communication between staff: tests requested by consultant and never carried out, junior doctor saying out loud within earshot of the Consultant that patient can “go home and come back if things …
My daughter was carrying twins and as she started to bleed and she was sent for a scan. On scanning they were found to have died. Unfortunately there was a total lack of communication on two counts. Firstly her midwife was not informed and …
Just recently been in and out for a throat op. I found all the staff very helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble, especially during my night on the ward. The surgeon and anaethetist were both skilled, kind and informative, making the experience almost enjoyable!
Thank you so much to all the children pediatric staff yesterday. I came to A&E with my daughter after having an accident in the go carts at Trago Mills park.
Waiting time was reasonable, good facilities, friendly staff, all I can say they gave us the best of the best service.
First of all I don’t usually visit hospitals. Hospital would be the last straw. The previous evening I experienced a severe pain in my ankle when playing football , I also heard a popping sound .At one point I thought I had broken my ankle. …
Awful. Completely chaotic. Lost my father in the system – twice. Sent him home after an op because they had given his bed away – he had a heart attack that night. Was admitted from A & E and when we arrived on the ward there was a space …
