Bristol Eye Hospital FAQs
can i pay for private surgery at the bristol eye hospital
I can't answer your question but it might help to know that my partner went there very recently (2018, as an emergency with serious Retinal detachment including the macula) and the nurses/doctors/surgeons could not have been kinder. The catering lady was also very supportive and even the served food was good (portions were perhaps a little small but hot and the quality was good).
Names of the doctors
I think you would have to contact the eye hospital for that one Gerry
Are there wheelchairs available for disabled patients with appointments in opd
Yes...the hospital is super friendly for disabled people.
I have strabismus and i live in Bristol, what is the first thing to do if i need a surgery to correct my strabismus?
You need to be referred by your GP in the first instance.
Can you self refer, or do you have to go through a G. P or optometrist? Thank you.
You can just go straight to A&E.
What is parking like
Limited street parking near hospital. Some car parks by the bri or use a city centre multistorey
Is there parking on site ?
Parking is very limited right outside, there is also disabled parking there though and there are some multistorey car parks nearby. You can also try Just Park, it's a company that lets you book parking spaces in advance and can be cheaper.
Do you offer private lens replacement? I have early cataracts but not bad enough for NHS work. I am prepared to pay.
Some of the Consultants do private work through Nuffield so I would advise contacting them.
I have an appointment for glaucoma screening tomorrow afternoon ar 2,30, will the hospital be carrying out clinics in view of the weather warnings, Should I attend for my appointment
I suggest you call the number on your appointment letter in the morning. Also, if it is not safe for you to travel then you can also rearrange your appointment.
The last notice I saw from First Bus was that their services would be suspended until at least 1pm and may only resume with a limited service - check their website for updates.
Take care and stay safe.
Where do you park for Bristol eye hospital?
I'm staff and don't drive to work as there aren't enough spaces for us.
If you have a disabled badge then there are a couple of spaces outside the entrance. Otherwise the NCP or Galleries car parks. I would get the bus if you can as you don't know how long you might be waiting for! Good luck for whatever you are going there for ??
I have a detached retina...

I would come to eye hospital casualty. It closes at 4pm
Is it open on a Saturday?
Accident and Emergency Department is open and there are a few clinics running as well.
What does it mean when right eye 6/15 best corrected and left eye6/60 best corrected
The easiest way to remember it is: the first number is you and second number is ''normal'' or ''standard''. With right eye, what you can see from 6 meters away, someone with ''normal'' vision would see from 15 meters away. And for left eye, what you can see from 6 meters, someone with ''normal'' vision could see from 60 meters. Best corrected means ''with spectacles on'' :)
Is there parking nearby
Trenchard Street NCP is another good option, the Rupert Street NCP is closer but very pricey!
