Write a ReviewLack of communication between the hospital ward and social worker. My mother-in-law has dementia and had to spend time on ward 19 with Covid, there’s a lack of communication to my husband about her discharge. Everyone blames each other …
Huge thanks to all the wonderful staff on ward 23 for helping us through the hardest days of our lives, and guiding us through my wonderful mum’s end of life care. The care they gave her, and us her family, was so lovely. Each and every …
Just been to urology investigation unit having had blood in urine. Fantastic staff and great service. Need operation so sent on way but hospital phoned within 2 hours and date fixed. Could not have got better service if i had paid private so very grateful to all concerned.
Barnsley hospital is a wonderful hospital. The staff are courteous and friendly. Always willing to help. The doctors are so efficient. I have had nothing but great treatment there
Really tired of them telling us to wear masks, half of the staff don’t bother and they show no exemption tags, i will refuse to wear one, it doesn’t stop covid. It’s an irritation and I wear glasses so I can’t see when I wear them due to …
Stayed in Barnsley for 2 weeks had twin babies, all the staff Doctors nurses, cleaners were soo good and helpful. Excellent care services provided. Thank you Barnsley hospital staff.
The service provided by all the staff at BDGH was absolutely brilliant. The initial paramedic, the ambulance staff, the A & E team and every other person that helped to support my mother who was very ill following a stroke.
The service provided was world class
This place medically neglected my Dad during his stroke, which resulted in me having to watch him die. …
Well done to consultant ‘Kim’ Who laughed at me while I told her I was in pain and felt like I was dying, who later found out I had blood poisoning and was suffering an allergic reaction to anaesthetic. Hats off to you. I hope to god you …
My mum is at end of life …(84)….ward 29…..cannot thank all staff. ..nurses ..doctors …tried everything….to make her better but unfortunately no change. …
Last Friday hospital transported 87 year old father in law home with promise of immediate support and subduing medication. Occupational therapist assessment couldn’t belive he had been sent home without any support or medication. Day 6 still waiting. NHS not failing – it’s FAILED.
Cannot praise the staff on Surgical SDEC enough. Every person we came into contact with were helpful, cheerful, friendly, caring, and very professional
Absolute joke of a hospital. Staff have less intelligence than a two year old but act like one during a temper tantrum if you question them. A waste of my taxes funding this poor excuse of a hospital
For the last couple of months I have been receiving treatment and care from SDEC surgical, the staff on this unit are unbelievable, the care and aftercare has been and is outstanding, thankyou for everything you do ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+++
I met a nurse and a consultant in medical out patients in June 2023. Both were friendly and caring.
I recently spent the day in the day surgery unit and I must say from arriving at 7am to leaving at around 15.30 every person I met from the Nurses who checked me in and walked me to theatre, the Anesthetist, Registrar, Consultant, recovery …
Only draw back is parking ques are huge with long wait times to get into the car parks. Best to set off a god while before any appointment if you’re driving. All staff are really helpful.
My 2 day visit from my stay while recovering from a poorly foot was the most compfy I’ve ever been staff were just incredible with me all the staff were very polite and super professional. Bravo barnsley hospital.

The nurses was brilliant during my visit. Due to rushing to the hospital I didn’t take enough money with me just the change in me pocket. Last bus Sunday night was 10.30pm so I had to leave without my blood test results. Anyway the doctor …

I have recently had surgery for cancer, and from my initial appointment right through to my hospital discharge I could not have been better looked after. The level of care I received was of the highest order and I will be forever grateful to all involved. Thank you.
I was waiting 5 hours on emergency because I was too sick and after 5 hours of waiting they told me I still need to wait! Very poor service ,if you comming to emergency deffinetelly you comming for nothing .poor people waiting and nobody comming to see us
Been today for an endoscopy and cannot praise the team enough. Everything was explained in detail before the procedure. Mr Khan and his team put you at ease, again explaining what they are doing, was over very quickly and then he explained his findings. Cannot praise this team enough. Fantastic job
Was discharged without proper diagnosis but plenty of belittlement, was close to death 2 weeks later but didn’t seek help because of my experience here. A big part of the reason I’ve now disengaged from mainstream health services as best I can. Avoid if you have the choice.
I spend a week in Barnsley Hospital with my wife we had twin babies, overall staff was very good and polite, park is limited, that’s a problem sometimes.
5 star review for the amazing staff in the childrens A&E department. Truly the NHS staff are the heroes of this country.
Big shoutout to Barnsley Hospital – Children’s Emergency & Assessment Unit – great staff for giving excellent and compassionate medical care. …

No restriction to COVID pointed this out still trying to force me to wear stupid paper masks and I was spoken to like something you would step in in the street staff need to learn manners and respect
Thanks for very efficient service at A&E this evening. Staff are pleasant and helpful and they were sorting patients sensibly and I would say doing very well minimising patients’ waiting time with the system they have in place. My broken …
Despite the obvious issues with bed and staff shortages, the staff in all departments are friendly and as helpful as they can be in difficult circumstances. I’ve been in the hospital a number of times in the last few years for heart issues …
What a absolute joke A and E is sat waiting for 9 hours to get a doctor that was arrogant and rude. It’s about time they sorted wait times out and set doctors back training for some bed side manners.
Whent in as a day case for camera down, lots of pain when I came round. Spent 2 days on ward 21 till they get me right. Think it’s a case of the individuals health. No complaints about my treatment. Discharged on Sunday follow up phone call on Monday. This is my fourth time in hospital this year.
Amazing staff Jill the day nurse who has been looking after me has been absolutely amazing Hannah the night too been absolutely amazing the staff are a credit on ward 18, there was only one person who was rude and abrupt Alison MacDonald …

Fix yer leg with a paper towel would recommend
Shambles. Healthcare establishment are not the words I’d use to describe Barnsley Hospital. Wait times over 8 hours. Even for someone with huge bruises on their ribs after a 60mph car crash. Saw them wait over 5 hours. Not even a scan in …
Absolutely shocking. In with a 6 month old baby with what could be potentially life threatening issues, been told could be a 6 hour wait! This at 9pm with a screaming baby that’s not well, just an absolute joke. It needs to be closed down …

Personally for mental health I really would not reccomend going to the A&E department at this hospital. I’m not sure what others in surrounding areas are like but as a 23 year old woman I am ashamed at how poorly they treated me with next …
7+ hours to be discharged. Worst hospital in South Yorkshire ! You can die untill they will do something with you. Paracetamol rock the world. It cures all health issues looks like. They are all busy and when you go in there all the nurses sit and laugh having conversations about how great is life when you get paid to relax .
This is a run down NHS Hospital and needs investment desperately.
The staff are kind and friendly and the services are good.
Parking is tight and you may find it difficult to find a space that you will …
Just wanting to share my gratitude to all the nurse’s, Doctors & surgeon’s for the care they have given me since Thursday evening. …

Seemed to be my second home for a while – surprised to see very few reviews left on here to be honest. I’ve always received fantastic care over the years when I’ve been in now and again! Plus my son was born there. Every time I’ve received nothing but great care and attention. Barnsley has a great hospital.
Visited A&E. There was a small queue to get in an check in, triaged within 20 minutes. Given a cubicle immediately. Saw a doctor within 40 minutes who gave me temporary treatment until the specialist doctor could come. I had not eaten so I …
I have mainly found the A&E staff extremely kind & with a high level of understanding. Naturally in such a busy environment a little patience is expected with waiting times. …
Well what can I say, I was admitted to the endoscopy unit on the 16th June 2021 for an examination. From start to finish, fantastic service, the doctor, the nurses and assistants couldn’t do enough, who would say that a hospital was a pleasure to visit. Well they deserve so much credit and thankyou

I have just spent 5 days in Barnsley Hospital, on Ward 22. This being the Cardiac Ward and, the quality of service, in regards to my care, was exemplary. In addition, I was looked after by the most caring and, most beautiful auxiliary nurse …
Just spent 3 days in Ward 35, after having Gall Bladder surgery. The staff were absolutely fantastic, really professional and dedicated, nothing was too much trouble, couldn’t fault them or the facilities.
My daughter was rushed into A&E by ambulance on Sunday 3rd June. The staff were waiting for us on arrival and spent 3 hours stitching my daughter’s head back together and another 3 hours stabilising her prior to being admitted. Nothing was …
Really positive experiences so far. Majority of staff are friendly and very helpful. Hospital itself could do with a bit of investment to support the brilliant staff.
The staff here really know what bed side manner is. It makes such a huge difference

I had to visit the Dermatology Department of Barnsley General on 5th January this year. I was unsure of the layout, so headed for outpatients, where I was met by a willing volunteer who walked me round to the Dermtlogy. On entering the …
Staff are friendly and always happy to help due to the pandemic.
My daughter had to go to the children ward and the staff was polite and made us feel comfortable and welcome. …
Queues for parking are ridiculous, for the main car park, the queue stretched down the road at least 250 yards, and disabled parking with a blue badge, I waited 30minutes for a space. This issue needs to be addressed, urgently.
I came to A&E over a laceration on my hand due to my dog accidentally biting me, I was sent to a department then sent back to A&E. I was rushed in with the A&E doctor, she didn’t check the wound thoroughly at all or clean it as she just had …
I have waited 13 hours with my boyfriend for a doctor to see him 4 hours in the morning and another 9 hours during the night because after the first visit they did absolutely nothing to him. He did not eat the whole day because he was …
Fantastic hospital, very systematic. People are friendly and helpful. They try to get you signposted if you are not not in the right place. Appointments are often not long and doctors are often genuinely interested in solving your problems …
My review relates solely towards the staff and conditions in A&E and on Ward 31, Level 5. …
Not worth national insurance money.
Using convid ( the flu ) as an excuse to get out of work.
Overpaid and undertrained and can’t handle the career they wanted. …
Went to A&E for a foot injury, all of the staff were lovely and super efficient. I was out following an x-ray with a full diagnosis and treatment plan in less than 30 minutes!

Following on from my review in October I attended the hospital again yesterday for my second eye lens implant . May I say yet again a massive thank you to all the nurses and staff for looking after me brilliantly and thank you to Miss Firan for doing the lens. A five star rating for a top hospital
So far very good. Staff welcoming, stop in the corridor to ask if you need help. It has been everything you would hope for. I am about to start a long period of treatment with Chemotherapy – I have full confidence.
I have been attending BDGH since December 2018 and been a inpatient three times since February. I cannot speak highly enough of all departments from when I was picked up by the ambulance team going through the procedure of A&E and being …
A ‘big shout out’ of thanks and gratitude to all staff at Barnsley hospital involved with the transportation, admission, diagnosis, medical and support care of my sick father on ward 35. We appreciate the care and kindness shown by all.

This hospital is an absolute joke. I had a massive cyst burst and waiting for an operation to have it removed. 3 days I’ve been fasting on and off for as they’ve have to send me back home twice. Nurses haven’t cleaned or dressed it …
Having stayed in Barnsley Hospital several times since the mid 70s I have seen the changes over that period. On some occasions the levels had dropped, but I can gladly say any fears of staying in the hospital now are gone. From the …
