Write a ReviewDuring my short stay at this hospital i was treated with more respect than I could have imagined.
The nursing staff were totally amazing and attentive as were all the staff. The …
Poor. Twice now had to use the Urgent Treatment centre for our baby and each time they are quick to triage you but then no one in the waiting room after triage gets to be seen in the consultation room for hours. There just seems no nurse or …
This is such a large hospital I assume that some wards are better than others. Some staff will be better than others.
Even with written protocols, the hospital messes up blood tests. …
Thank you very much for the excellent care my 93 year old Mum received from the A & E department today. Everyone was so kind and caring, can’t remember all your names but, especially Louise the Doctor, Aarti the medical student and Emma the …
I have had to attend the GWH a number of times over the last month due to a procedure and aftercare(Dressing changes). The aftercare should really have been carried out by my own GP practice, but could only obtain 3 appointments during …
Newer A&E waiting room design is more comfortable and comforting, can say I’d be pleased if this design was stretched across into other areas (especially waiting rooms) of GWH. Waiting hours are still long went twice in one month and waited …
Lovely nurse in the Blood test department. She was great, uplifting, happy & kind. Didn’t get her name unfortunately but she was brilliant & thank you for my animal plaster haha. …
Save your time, nerves and more importantly life and do not come to the emergency unit of this hospital! The doctors are neglecting their job and letting infants who can’t breath on their own wait for over 5 hrs to be seen!!! …
Good experience at Dermatology wren unit. Short wait, speedy biopsy, hardly noticeable stitches on my face, and followup letter in 7 days. Thankyou Dr K. Only negative was parking charges. BR.
I’ve had a pleasant experience all the times I have had to come into the hospital. I have only been for scans so far and I am seen to very quickly after arriving. …
Yesterday we had a very scary evening with our son ending up in Swindon Great Western Hospital 🏥 …
Apart from the 70 hour wait time to get a bed and having to pay for the tv, I couldn’t say a bad word otherwise. My dad had a heart attack and they did one operation and he was back to what seemed like normal and then he was out the next …
My partner had a emergency during the covid lockdown, reception staff who would not even give me a moment to speak or explain what my concerns were with her, they were more bothered I waited outside and were very rude, judgemental and …
Compassionate, professional staff care during my recent stay on Beech ward. Wonderful team who should be proud of the care they deliver. Thank you!!
Vulnerable people left in an ambulance sat outside the hospital for hours. Not a couple of hours but several. This place should really lose the great from its name. My wife and I have had to endure their ridiculous and shameful …
Could not believe my ears and eyes . There was a man on a ward that could not speak English and also has what I thought to be dementia. He didn’t seem to know what he was doing (bless him) when a nurse asked him to stop what he was doing …
Staff was wonderful—compassionate and professional. The support team has been unbelievable. More that I could ever have expected. Thank you so so much.
Got seen quickly and got looked after immediately
This place just let my mum die . Just because she was 95 it didn’t mean they should give her less help . After trying antibiotics which she failed to respond well to they just said she has had it ! Stuck us in a room and let her dehydrate …
Went to A&E this morning I was triaged X rayed & treated all within an hour and half . Well looked after especially in emergency care . I thought I would post a positive post !
Absolutely awful ! Staff were so ruled ! Reception staff ruled ! No reassurance for my son when they were doing tests or even explaining some things we wanted to know , all staff looked like they couldn’t be bothered, (why work there then??? ) not taking are son here again . We will be going to bath. DONT GO HERE
The staff in the Daisy ward are fantastic! They made my stay at the hospital comfortable and you can really tell they care for their patients. They are hard working and go above and beyond for everyone. I cannot thank them enough!
Poorly run if you have a cardiac condition you’ll be left in the corridor and denied a bed or pain relief for hours on end and when you are put on the ward you get told while in agony with chest pain, not able to stand without feeling …
This has been my first experience of A&E for a very long fortunately. In hindsight we were in and out within under two hours, but it’s not all about waiting times. I felt like I was in some back alley sci-fi medical centre. The cleanliness …
Not quite sure why others gave 1 star??? I was there today, admittedly for a long time ( uct ) but staff were lovely, even had a tea trolley going round waiting rooms!! It’s not the hospitals fault that u have to wait, with so many …
Visited A&E with my husband 7 weeks ago. Walked in and saw nurses pretty much straight away. Husband diagnosed with heart attack, blue lighted to Bristol. Stent fitted within two hours of arrival. Kept informed by pleasant efficient staff at both hospitals. NHS at it’s best. Very grateful to have it.
Paramedics strongly advised that I be admitted to A &E Tuesday 19 April, don’t get me wrong, I knew that I wouldn’t just sail through and be seen immediately but to wait in an ambulance in an a and e car park for almost 7 hours does not …
Lady at the door of walk in emergency couldn’t care less,
Reception staff don’t acknowledge you for 5 min when standing right in front of them and they make you shout out all personal information and reason for …
Compassionate and they do care about your health issues and try to help you to there best.
Twice in the last 2 days I have been to the AE department with considerable pain in my tummy,Friday they did blood test check my hart and X-ray that was all okay I was sent home still in a lot of pain and told to come back again if it did …
I attended the hospital following an urgent referral from my G.P They rang with my appointment the next day and I was seen within two weeks. I was seen on time for both appointments and all staff that looked after me were helpful and …
Sent to a & e by 111 for emergency ECG. Over 2 hours later still not carried out. When asked how much longer was advised no one to carry it out as all staff on break. I think the 4 hour wait is used as a statutory wait time with patients …
Gwh Hospital is Swindons major hospital.
It has PMH ways still which for those remember use to be windy because of it being on a hill. …
A total disaster…
After being referred from 111 to have an urgent appointment in the Urgent department at 18.30h, after 4h waiting still haven’t been seen by any doctor and the …
Well what can I say. The staff are polite but the rules they are sticking to are heartless. I’m currently sitting outside the hazel ward & have bin for 9 hours waiting for my partner to hit 10cm. I’m not allowed to wait in the room with …
I’m rating my experience of A&E yesterday: in one word – diabolical.
10 hours of tests and waiting. No updates. No food, despite being aware I was a …
I have been to the great western probably over a good 50 times, for mental health reasons. Firstly I’d like to say, that in no way am I slandering the nhs or key workers in general. However it is appalling how I got treated there. ( by some …
There is plenty of public car spaces and the hospital is just off jct15 M4.
Deserve MINUS 5 stars! Came to A&E 2am with humeral head & neck fracture with large dislocation. At this time in room were about 8 patients. I bagged for painkillers us nearly passed out from pain. And guess what it took them nearly 2 …
It’s taken me some time to build up the courage and write this review.
I blame this hospital for the death of my mum. …
Wish I could give this hospital 0 stars
– I had an eye infection and had called in from 111, they told me to go to A&E and I went at around 8/9pm. I got there only to wait for 13 hours or until 8am …
Went to GWE maternity delivery unit today and the care was amazing. Thank you to the midwife Emma- you are fantastic and put my mind at ease.
I am so grateful to the staff at the GWH. I went for a biopsy at the Women’s Health Outpatients department in November 2021. On the 5th January this year I was diagnosed with cancer. On the 26th January just 3 weeks following my diagnosis I …
5/5
Gemma on admissions line very helpful when booking in my gynecology operation with 5 days notice. …
I rarely write reviews but I felt I needed to here. My Grandfather has recently been receiving treatment and I am disgusted by how he has been treated! Staff members being rude to him and not helping him properly. Thankfully he is in a rehabilitation centre where he seems to be receiving better treatment and nicer staff members!
I tried to put review on the NHS portal but was refused and made it very difficult to express our feeling.. what happened to freedom of speech? My wife has unstable angina and quite often we have to come here, Prior COVID normally they keep …
Parking is still an issue. Especially if you need to go to a&e or urgent care. Then if you’re disabled forget it. A disabled person will need to park at the front entrance and then make their own way round. No easy feat with disabilities. Poor show. Staff do their best despite being under funded under paid and over worked.
A year later still waiting for my ultrasound result to be sent to my surgery. Phoned the ultrasound department to give them surgery email address. Was told surgery must phone themselves. Did not want to take the time to just do the right thing
The hospital is too small and understaffed / badly managed for the size of the town. I’ve used it a lot as an outpatient, inpatient and A&E because I have chronic health conditions, one of which is potentially fatal. Staff are always …
I came to have labour induced, they called me and asked me to arrive on a Friday at 5:30, gave me a room and said someone would come and check on me and my baby to start the process. Three hours later I called and asked what the problem …
Wouldn’t even give them 1 star rating.
My elderly disabled mother had a bad fall, smashing her face, clearly broken her nose, suspected broken hip and knee. Ambulance service took nearly 5 hours to …
I have a disabled clinically vulnerable relative currently on the trauma ward here, her treatment can only be described as less than I would treat a dog,she has had to beg to be moved/ rolled over as she cannot move herself, she has had to …
Having a tough time at the moment, and everyone who dealt with me was brilliant. Actually acted like they cared. Thank you so much. Especially Katie in resus i believe. …
I moved to Swindon last October and 3 weeks later had to visit A&E as I broke my elbow. The entire experience was really fast and efficient with fantastic staff. I have since had appointments with several other departments for various …
I had to take my 6 year old daughter to the out of hours walk in clinic. The receptionist lady was lovely and welcoming. We barely sat down and we were seen. The man who saw us was fantastic with my daughter checked her over and was …
For giving birth—> This hospital is horrible, I gave birth there and I could die because of the midwifes, they are really unprofessional and know nothing about giving birth and it’s ended up with C-section and the doctor told me that I …
Serious safeguarding issues your vunarable relatives are not safe at GWH
Not impressed. My husband has been put through unnecessary trauma , all due to delayed treatment , a terrible experience on linnet ward 31/8/18. 11hour wait in a chair , Cleanliness is terrible , some staff good , some not , still …
A AND E -YOUR LUCKY TO BE IN HERE- NOT BY A COUNTRY MILE!!
I had the unfortunate situation of being taken to A and E by ambulance and not …
I was admitted to Great Western Hospital in early November 2020 with what turned out to be a perforated appendix. The team in the Surgical Assessment Unit were amazing. After being admitted late afternoon, I was CT scanned that evening and …
To Ambulance staff, kingfisher ward and A&E and 111
My mother suffered a continue nose bleed. …
The Audiology department have been brilliant in dealing with with my recent hearing problems. Thank you so much for the prompt and efficient service.
I fell. I hit the back of my head. I phoned 111 & was sent an ambulance and then was admitted to the hospital. …
My husband who has dementia collapsed on Wednesday and was taken into A&E at Great Western Hospital. The care we were given by everyone was wonderful. From the Paramedics and everyone in the A & E department where we were dealt with …
The A&E is not fit for purpose. Following 7 hours of directionless, disorganised, messing about there on Thursday morning they sent my wife off with a packet of pills and assurances all would be OK within 48 hours. Convinced things just …
I’ve just had x-rays at the hospital and had an awful experience. Why when the dept opens at 8 does it take them 10 minutes to actually start doing anything? The radiographer had an awful attitude. Instead of asking me to move one of me …
I recently had colorectal surgery and cannot give sufficient praise to Mr Owais and his team. The process from diagnosis to surgery was swift and efficient. The nursing team on Meldon Ward were kind, understanding and nothing was too much …
Having visited this hospital on several occasions, with mother and for myself, I must congratulate the staff on their professionalism and the skill to treat patients as people who are important. What i experienced was exceptional. …
A very busy, well run and well maintained hospital, that copes efficiently with the large population it serves in the Swindon and out lining areas.
Innovative changes by the hospital’s Management, to its many departments in the …
Went here to visit a friend who had been moved about to 4 different unrelated wards in 3 days and at the time of our visit hadn’t seen a doctor in over 24 hours yet was awaiting ‘urgent diagnostic imaging’. The place was filthy and the …
Around 6 months ago now i had my first ever operation. It was for a broken bone in my right hand, and i was nervous about this, Being the first one. …
If I could give zero stars I would. Grandson has been having 5+ nosebleeds a day for weeks, GP has refused to see him, urgent care didn’t even look at him so eventually under GPs order he was taken to A&E. First off nurse was rude. Long …
Urgent care rescued a hearing aid dome from my ear, embarrassingly for the third time, this morning. All staff were courteous, polite and sorted the problem swiftly. Thank you so much.
Until recently I would never post a scathing review about anything linked to the NHS. However, after speaking to many people I feel if we don’t speak up nothing will improve. …
I can not sing the praises of the Staff and Volunteers loud enough! From the understaffed A&E to the understaffed Cardio department via the understaffed exploratory departments everyone had a smile and did their utmost to ensure I was …
Excellent hospital and fabulous staff. Parking is reasonably priced. When my 6 year old broke his arm recently, all the staff were amazing. We were in and out in 3 hours, even though it was busy, and felt the staff really cared about what they were doing. We’ll done GWH, keep it up!!
Excellent care of my 102 year old mother who has been in and out of GWH for 3 months. The staff and doctors could not have taken more care and in a very cheerful manner. My mother was more than happy with the attention she received. The NHS gets constant criticism in the media which we feel is totally unjustified.
Absolutely shocking place moved from holding area to holding area… pain medications only received when asked for, not one staff member enquired as to how the pain was …. Not a lack of staff either groups of staff stood around chatting !!!
If I could give 0 stars I would. Elderly family member meant to be discharged but the day shift weren’t told, so had to stay in an extra 3 days. During that time she picked up an infection because the staff weren’t giving her her prescribed antibiotics. Now staying in over Easter. Terrible.
What a shambles. Left hand doesn’t know what the right hands doing. No communication from hospital to other departments, patient or family….sorry NHS lovers, this place is hardly fit for purpose in my experience. …
