Write a ReviewHad to have minor surgery here for cancer. All the staff were very professional and the surgeon was first class; made me feel very at ease with the surgical procedure. Can’t fault the treatment that I had here at all, and I don’t think you …
I visited A&E in the late afternoon on a Friday and despite waiting for a long time with a work colleague had a very pleasant experience. The waiting area was calm and we were kept informed throughout. Tea/coffee and food was offered at …
Massive thank you to the helpful and caring staff in Lancaster Ward, especially ocean suite. With the speed at which everything escalated at over the last few days, they responded in the best way you could hope for and looked after my partner so well. So great full for their care.
I cannot praise highly enough of all the Derriford staff. I was admitted via A&E onto the SAU. The staff were efficient kind and incredibly hard working. Derriford also has a patient discharge ward/ room which is a brilliant idea. …
Staff are always chatting and on their phones, my brother (9 at the time) waited 10 minutes for a check-up, so that’s not bad, but we waited about 3 and a half hours for someone to start a procedure. they said he needs antistatic. They let …
I attended A&E yesterday after having snapped my Achilles tendon. It was an experience I was not looking forward given the recent media hype.
I could not have been more pleasantly surprised! Although the waiting area was …
This review is about the psych liaison team. I was seen very quickly and helped quickly, and I was able to go back to where I’m living due to feeling supported. That is so much more I can say for many other hospitals I’ve been to. Thank you
Would you raise your tone of voice if you have seen your mum falsely sedated for 37years by schools doctor when she sort treatment for your broken neck an back? Then would you give Derriford only one star because they made out that you were …
Husband had the best service in AandE ? stroke seen by lovely Dr and nurses and lovely volunteers thanks and we’ll done all xx
Sending a huge thank-you to all of the kind, compassionate and brilliant people at Derriford for their marvelous care given to my daughter who they treated recently.
Killed my sister who was a type one diabetic. She was slipping into a coma while they repeatedly walked by her, too busy to check her blood sugar, until she was severely brain damaged by hypoglycemia. The coroner ruled their NEGLIGENCE as …
Very hot on the day I visited and it felt warmer inside as outside. Perhaps costs kept down for no aircon but it would certainly have helped.
Located about 10 mins off the A38 North of Plymouth, this huge complex is a busy, well serviced NHS Trust Hospital.
Stagecoach and Citibus run from the City centre at regular intervals, the car …
The wards that I have been in are mostly understaffed. However most of the staff are helpful and mostly caring, although there have been one or two HCAs that could do with more training on patient care. I need to UPDATE this review. My …
Do not answer phones (admin / secretarial staff) – not even during business hours eg middle of the afternoon when they should be manned. They complain about missed appointments costing the NHS money then do not answer the phone so that you can rearrange / cancel appointments.
I had a CT scan last week (colonography). It was a very uncomfortable procedure. However the staff were all so very sweet and kind that they made it as pleasant as it could possibly have been.
Great when unwell, waiting times not great, but where aren’t they, this is our NHS after all. Usually relatively nice staff, and from my experience, they look after you pretty well. Have their downfalls, but again, where doesn’t, just sometimes some staff could do with a tad less salt. Overall relatively jolly good stuffs
I had an appendectomy yesterday in. I had to wait a long time, because of course there is a shortage of staff. Despite all that, everyone (doctor, nurses, etc.) was always nice and very helpful. I come from Austria and have never had such a good experience with a hospital. Thank you to all the staff for your efforts!
I must say over the years I have lost faith in the NHS and I have Mid Essex Hospital trust to thank for this. …
Absolutely disgusting experience. Was left on CDU for 3 days before a Neurologist bothered to come and see me, apparently he didn’t know I was there. They had no idea what I had, I had countless tests to diagnose Transverse myelitis caused …
Avoid the tuna and cheese panini asked for toasted and got hot soggy dough and the tuna well not 100% sure that was tuna, disgusting paste mess.
The can of coke and the crisps were great.
The nurses there were all lovely and respectful even though there on there feet all day!! There so helpful and saves lifes love you NHS!!! Go staff and thank you!!
I’ve had many a surgery at Derriford without issues on their part however issues on my part through fear. Today was my latest surgery and after the amazing team going above and beyond this was my first hospital visit without panic attacks. …
From nurses to doctors, outstanding care and treatment. Well looked after and fixed up. Thank you everyone
I gave Derriford hospital one star because there wasn’t an option for zero. I completely understand that for the NHS, times are hard. But when my grandad was admitted into this hospital back in May, none of us realised we would be saying …
My sister is currently in Derriford, they are simply amazing. I do not know how they do what they do and remain, smiling, caring and dedicated. What an incredible hospital
My mum had cancer and contracted pneumonia last week ,she was taken into A& E ,where they looked after her impeccably ,we cannot fault anything to do with the care she recieved there ,we got called back in the next day as her health had …
This is the worst hospital in the entire country. Even the kids are not safe here…. I am waiting with my 7 yr old daughter in the A&E for more than 7 hrs now…… Sadly i am going home with out any outcome….. 😢 …
Worst hospital I have ever encountered. Staff aren’t very nice or helpful, whether its A and E or you have been sent by your GP, you are left waiting for inordinate lengths of time. Having recently been to truro hospital and having a much …
Waited 5 hours in the emergency room to be seen by a nurse who told us that we have to wait 6 more hours to be seen by a doctor. This is horrific. We eventually had to leave because my partner who had horrible abdominal pain and sickness …
Very easy to navigate around as well sign posted for each ward or department .
I unfortunately and probably because I’m in my 80’s that I have had occasion to visit Derriford on numerous occasions this year. I can’t fault them in any way, they have been efficient both in time and expertise, for which they deserve the …
Saw Mr Williams in ENT today. Such a lovely man and easy to talk to. Thank you.
Referred to the Surgical Assessment Unit by my GP for an abscess that had appeared suddenly. Only waited about 30 mins to be seen in triage, both the doctor and nurse I saw were lovely. Sent home to return for surgery the following morning. …
I’ve lived in London and been seen with greater speed and decorum than all of the staff I interacted with at derriford. If I could leave 0 I would. 7hrs of waiting should never be acceptable and no it was not particularly busy. Staff exceptionally lazy however!
I cannot praise the staff at this hospital more for the hard work they do (12 hour shifts) but the management of the place is appalling and the place is unsafe. It is seriously unstaffed and we spent 22 hours in A and E on a weekday for a …
Battle of the Somme. Bring a pillow, change of clothes, drinks, snacks, and a great deal of patience as there are far too many patients. Staff are doing their very best under the trying circumstances
A terrible hospital which is in need of a larger team of staff – seen people having panic attacks and people left in severe pain for hours including myself while doctors/nurses stroll past without a the slightest duty of care in the world. …
Took my son into CAU. Staff were so welcoming, patient and really did care. I didn’t feel rushed. My son was cared for and they genuinely cared. Special shout out to student nurse Nicole. She was so lovely
Cannot fault the treatment I received in Oncology Dept. SABR radiotherapy was non-invasive, non-scary, pain-free and hopefully will prove to be effective in completely eradicating the small tumour. Just follow up scans for the next 5 years. …
Fantastic staff in SAU..waiting times long but hayho, wonderful people.
After Op I awoke in recovery to a wonderful young lady Arrianne, beautiful smile and really caring. …
Absolutely disgusting times taken 11 hours just to be seen for what we were told was an emergency.
“Partner loosing eye sight” …
We came here, to get the blood type checked. It was an emergency due to issues of pregnancy. The Maternity Hospital wing didn’t want to do anything nor help us. In the Ende we went to the emergency Room and we had to wait for almost three …
Derriford is a good hospital but the communication between staff is not. Patients are constantly being forgotten about or pushed aside. I completely get the NHS is struggling etc but don’t tell patients they will be seen by a doctor ‘now’ …
In as a patient for 21 days. Excellent care.
My mum passed away at derriford last Friday, she was very sick, the staff on shaugh ward were absolutely amazing, especially zoe and dear Tom,they were the most caring and sympathetic people I have ever met so ahuge heartfelt Thank-you you are all a credit to your profession xxxxxx
Took my 5 month old baby to child A&E, ended up waiting 7hrs before we got to see a doctor. After we got seen and were put in a room it was like they had forgotten about us, so I got my husband to stand in the doorway so they couldn’t miss …
During COVID I’ve had nothing good to say about A&E. I had a nasty fall from height and avoided the hospital for 12 hours. The pain made me immobile and I feared I’d broken bones head, spine, shoulders, ribs. The whole process in and out …
Zero compassion shown to patients. Many misdiagnosed patients die due to poor radiography. Also the draconian way my wife was treated when losing our baby. Disgracefully run. Staff do all they can but the people in charge are clueless
The attempts of successive governments to destroy our glorious NHS, along with the staffing issues resulting from Brexit have been seriously bad news for hospitals. Coupled with that the huge backlog caused by that blasted virus means that …
Derriford hospital is full of good working people. Its clean but under funded.
ICU brilliant. Ward – hopeless. Was not prepared for needs of patient on transfer from ICU. Visiting info not updated on website or posted notices. I can only ring and visit at times which would require me to give up working. No allowances, not even a willingness to listen. Actually fear for my partners physical and emotional well-being,
Very busy place wonderfull staff .very crazy at the moment due to building work
the a&e is horribly unfunded. the staff are overworked. the wait time averages to 4 hours to just be seen by a nurse. and the. another two hours to be seen by an HCA and then after all that, another 10 hours to be seen by an actual doctor. …
I had an operation Tuesday 17 May…The Maxillofacial team led by Mr Courtney was first class….the theatre staff were so wonderful and comforted me throughout…..recovery team on Postbridge ward, led by the marvellous …
Right so I am quite a regular to this hospital and I will say it is outstanding in some aspects whilst lacking in others. The food is terrible on the wards but the level 7 and 6 cafes/restaurants are good. They are understaffed to the point …
My husband didn’t shed any tears when he was told he had pancreatic cancer or while he waited months to have the operation to have the tumor removed. He was a strong man. Today he sobbed when i brought him back home, having spent 11 days …
Parking is always difficult. Especially for people with disabilities like my wife and I
Very clean, friendly staff, bit of a maze
As part of pediatric department they are working perfectly with more responsibility to all children patients. Level 12 outpatient and pediatric support all children and young people. They have more facilities to help and they also had a …
A superb experience. 3 days in after heart attack. Really excellent staff, they were excellent in every way. They had so many things to deal with and remained friendly, caring and professional. I take my hat off to them. …
The local NHS Hospital. Has a&e located on site as well as the maternity wards and everything in between. Has a multi story parking unit which like all NHS car parks Is very expensive. Has a couple of coffee shops inside and a few fast food places and a Costa by the multi storey.
Attended fracture clinic. Staff although very busy were very helpful and polite. The unit was very efficient with little to no waiting times. X-ray, plaster see doctor then given physio exercises all seamlessly. Brilliant
Stay well clear of you need to….absolutely shambolic!!!How can a Hospital of this size keep a Patient inside for 7 days for a simple Paracetamol…..this place needs a massive shake up!!! To many staff being paid without actually doing the job that they are actually being paid for…..What are we actually paying NI for??Total DISGUSTING
Went to see Mr McAllen about my leg pain as I have a large lump in the middle of my leg. He flippantly explained he could go in and have a look (was clearly not jnterested in caring for me). When I asked about the risk, he said possibility …
Second time I’ve had to come to this hospital. Complete shambles. 1st time was ready for op, hour later was told its been cancelled. Now I’ve come in reception didn’t have a clue about the appointment, they put me in a room and that was it. …
Went to the fracture clinic today and was assessed and had ultrasound on my damaged Achilles. Now have a boot on and hopefully on the road to recovery. Thank you very much for helping me it is much appreciated.
I was taken to Derriford Hospital for emergency brain surgery, while I was on holiday in November 17. I stayed there for 3 weeks & we couldn’t fault it at all. Everything ran smoothly & all the staff were brilliant, going out of their way …
I would like to express my thanks and gratitude to the Cardiology Dept at Derriford, especially the staff at Bickleigh Ward and Dr. Cox and his team. They sorted out my heart problem in an efficient and professional manner. The service and …
Rude, poorly trained staff who are unserious about their duty of care. Reception staff are particularly poor. Clearly leadership is lacking at Plymouth for such a disorganised and unprofessional operation. Complete contrast to my local similar sized hospital in Newcastle. Would suggest avoiding this hospital if possible.
My mother was admitted to the hospital following falling unwell on holiday. She later passed away. I would like to say we received the best care ever. All the staff were wonderful, the doctors , nurses , everyone. They were kind and …
Thank you to all the staff at the breast screening unit. Very well organised and wonderful staff. My partner was overwhelmed with the quality of the service and care provided. So proud of our NHS, especially since my feelings towards …
I was in the Hartor ward and i can wholeheartedly say every member of staff was amazing. From nurses to porters to food staff. I was in for 5 nights. The food was at a surprisingly good standard. Also tea or coffee whenever i wanted one. …
The place u go to to feel miserable.. 10hours waiting time at AE on a monday night.. and the bad news is this corrupt government doesnt allow us to stop contributing from our wages. We get robbed for this terrible system ..10HRS waiting …
*UPDATED June 2021, Saw Dr Doyle at ENT after suffering and struggling with sinus issues and tinnitus etc. Not happy at all as he asked why I was even there and I explained I am suffering and have been for years with symptoms getting worse. …
Awful , paramedics in the ambulance were lovely. The nurses and doctors in the hospital itself were so rude, i get the job can be hard and stressful but there was no need to be so rude all the time. Also never changed gloves while going between patients , so unhygienic.
Wonderful people. Erme Ward and Shaugh Ward. Neuro and Ortho teams. I spent nearly a month in Derriford being bolted back together after a fall down an outcrop on Dartmoor. Couldn’t have asked for better treatment from all staff. Professional, caring, funny when needed and courteous at all levels. Thank you
I spent 10 days in hospital in the Major Trauma section after a bad fall breaking 9 bones! First class in every section no criticisms only that it’s ashame other hospitals can’t follow in this extremely well organised hospital! Thankyou to all the to all staff, Nurses who looked after me and doctors who operated on me…
Williams wife Karen was admitted into postbridge ward Deriford hospital as a day case under the gyni department.
